New Driving License Rules For Bikes And Scooters In Nepal

New Driving License Rules For Bikes And Scooters In Nepal

For a long while, there has been cloudy air around the rules of the bike and scooter licence trials in Nepal. How many times can you put down your foot? If at all. What happens if you stall the bike? Questions like these, and the inconsistent answers to them are what have been failing trial takers for so long.

To clear the confusion, here is all you have to know about the 70 mark rule for driver’s licence in Nepal.

Starting from February 14, Bagmati Province has also implemented the 70-Point System for Driving License Trials; a system already in place in Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

What is the 70-point system for driving licence in Nepal?

The license trial for the bikes and scooters in Nepal is divided into seven parts; round eight, narrow ply, u-turn, traffic light, Speed Breaker, ramp, and behavioural aspects. The total obtainable points in the Nepali trial system for bikes and scooters is 100.

Previously, any error during trial—such as suddenly stalling a bike, or putting a foot down in parts other than the ramp, etc—would get you disqualified. However, according to the new 70-point system for driver licence trial in Nepal, errors at each stage still only deduce a trial taker’s points, with a minimum of 70 points required to pass the trial.

Marking Structure and Deductions In Driving License Trial In Nepal

As per the new 70-point system, each part of the trial now has deductible points. The amounts of points that can be deducted, and the reasons to do so differ for each part of the trial.

Below is a table clarifying the points that each part grants the trial taker, and the deductions that can be made.

Conclusion

As of February 14, Bagmati province has adopted the 70-point system for bike and scooter licence trials—making the trail easier to pass—following the steps of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Certain that previous disqualified trial takers, now only deduct points. As long as trial takers stay above 70 points, they will pass.
