How To Clean Motorcycle Helmet

Have you readers ever considered cleaning the helmet as regularly as servicing your two-wheeler? It definitely is not the most prominent task that comes to one's mind when talking about two-wheeler maintenance. Helmet hygiene is also an integral step that many riders usually miss.

7 most effective ways to clean helmet

1. Use Mild Soap and Warm Water:

One of the easiest ways to clean a motorcycle helmet is to use a mild soap and warm water. Wet a soft cloth with warm water and add a small amount of mild soap. Then, gently wipe the exterior of the helmet. Rinse the helmet with
warm water and wipe it dry with a clean towel. One can completely immerse the helmet in a bucket filled with warm soapy water as well. (after any helmet bluetooth or electronic devices are removed)

2. Use Microfiber Cloth:

A microfiber cloth is a great tool for cleaning a motorcycle helmet because it can remove dirt and grime without scratching the surface. Simply wet the cloth with warm water and wipe down the exterior of the helmet. Rinse the helmet with warm water and wipe it dry with a clean towel. I recommend all riders to carry a small microfiber cloth when riding everyday. It definitely comes in handy.

3. Use a Helmet Cleaner:

There are many helmet cleaners available that are specifically designed to clean and protect motorcycle helmets. They are available in spray bottles and cleaning foams. These helmet cleansers are used majorly to clean the helmet visor and other external parts of the helmet.

4. Use Rubbing Alcohol:

If your helmet has stubborn stains or smells, you can use rubbing alcohol to clean it. Dampen a cloth with rubbing alcohol and gently wipe down the exterior of the helmet. Rinse the helmet with warm water and wipe it dry with a clean towel. This should be used when a stain is very stubborn and could not be removed by any available cleaners.

5. Use Vinegar:

Vinegar is a natural cleaner that can effectively remove dirt and grime from a motorcycle helmet. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the helmet and wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth. This is the easiest and the most cost effective way of cleaning a helmet with the products that are mostly available at home.

6. Use Baking Soda:

Baking soda is another natural cleaner that can be used to clean a motorcycle helmet. Mix a small amount of baking soda with warm water to form a paste. Apply the paste to the helmet and gently rub it in with a soft cloth. Rinse the helmet with warm water and wipe it dry with a clean towel. This way the helmet can be cleaned from the inside out.

7. Use a Steam Cleaner:

If you have a steam cleaner, you can use it to clean your motorcycle helmet. The steam will effectively remove dirt and grime without damaging the helmet. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for using the steam cleaner. This can be helpful when one does not want to use any harsh chemicals on their helmets and just wants to use water and natural steam to overcome the dirt and residue.

There are separate protective gears that can be used for the protection of helmet visors such as additional protective screen film, scratch repellent sprays and more. For good helmet hygiene, it is wise for the users to at least clean the entire helmet once every month and externally clean it weekly. This will help prevent any bacteria or dust that could get accumulated on the unseen corners of the helmet.
